Exploramania – TOS review

My daughter was really excited when she saw this fun new CD we received in the mail from TOS. She loves gymnastics and thought that was what it was. The title of the excercise CD is GyMathtics. You can get this CD for your family at Exploramania.com.

I thought this was going to be great for our family because it includes two things we are in great need of, exercise and math help. The founder of this company, Carrie Scheiner, started it because she felt her children needed an outlet for their high energy and creative expression. After hearing a speaker at a seminar talk about stretching your mind to create BIG dreams, finding your passions and understanding your unique talents, Carrie went on to create Exploramania. You can read her story in it’s entirety here.

This CD incorporates easy exercises with math facts.

Here are a few of the topics covered

  • Even and odd Numbers
  • Counting by 2’s, 5’s, and 10’s.
  • Prime Numbers
  • Place Value
  • Pattterns
  • Triangles

Because I am also in need of exercise, I did the video with the kids a couple of times. I have to admit, it was fun. My 6 year old daughter really likes it, my 10 year old son, not so much. He said it was “babyfied”. I don’t think I did such a good job because at one point the kids were rolling on the floor laughing and said I looked like a fish out of water. I’m sure the creator didn’t mean for this to be a comedy but my family thought it was pretty funny. Okay, they thought I was funny, not the CD.

I think this is a good way to get a little exercise into your school day. This would be great as an exercise curriculum or for extra math practice after school that helps to get rid of some of your kids extra energy.

At the end of the workout they say positive thoughts and this was my favorite part. They talk about a W.A.V.E which stands for use nice Words, nice Actions, nice Voices and listen with nice Ears, as you do cool down exercises. This is something I strive for in my children. I want them to always think of others first and be the kind of person that makes God happy. I feel like this CD, in a very subtle way, encourages this. It seems a little pricey to me at $24.95 each but if it makes your children exercise more it is probably worth it.

I think that this is appropriate for smaller children as older kids might find it a little “babyfied”. Exploramania also offers a second CD titled GyMathtics 2.0, Explorasize exercise mat, Explorasize thumball (coming soon) collection, and Wow words of wisdom. You can see all of their products at Exploramania.com. The thumballs might be more appropriate for the older child. They are soccer balls with math facts on them.
