Both of my kids can spend hours playing with building blocks and Lincoln Logs, They are always building houses, barns and vehicles. They were so excited when we received the life-like animals from Schleich which is a company that has been making toys for over 75 years. My husband threw away the packing slip that can with the shipment so the kids and I were trying to figure out what some of the animals were. Their favorite was the “Zedonk”
This is the name they came up with for this animal which is really called an Okapi. We still like Zedonk better.
The official names of what we received are
Asian elephant calf
Przewalski's horse
Dartmoor Pony
Swabian-Hall piglet,
Donkey
Okapi
Gnu
Gnu calf
Each animal is beautifully crafted and recommended for ages 3 and up. The quality of these are unlike anything I have ever seen when it comes to toys like this. We love that they are so sturdy. My only complaint is that they really, really hurt when they are left out and I step on them. Bella’s favorite was the elephant.
Schleich’s website has areas on the website area where you can send an interactive e-card, download screen savers and so much more. .
I love that these toys require my kids to use their imagination. I would much rather my kids play with things like this rather than video games or toys that require no thinking or imagination.
The catalog that we received with the animals was amazing. The kids are still looking at it and picking out what they want to ask Santa for. Griffin would like the airplane so he can fly the animals around. The pictures in it are beautiful. It’s better than the Sears catalog we always got when I was a kid. There is a place on the Schleich website where you can find retailers (online and actual stores) that carry these animals. You are not able to order directly from their website.
The Schleich website, has a neat “fun fact” about each animal to help you learn more about them. You can even download coloring sheets called “painting templates”. The kids really liked that a lot of the animals have adult and baby versions. The website also gives information about the habitat and so much information on each of the animals that it can be an educational experience just looking on the website. I found the website to be easy to navigate and beautifully designed.
The prices of the animals ranges from $2 for a small baby animal to over $100 for a play set. Although the kids loved all of the animals, they are also wanting the fairies, knights and personally, I want the Smurfs. So, Santa, if you’re listening, I want this pink car with Smurfette in it, please.
Brainy smurf says “You should definitely check out what the other crew members have to say about Schleich.
Our family gives Schleich. . . . .
(We probably needed more Smiley’s for this one)
Smiley guide:
1 Smiley - Product not really for our family. Probably wouldn’t buy. This really should probably be a frown face but we hate to be negative.
2 Smileys - Would maybe buy this product if on sale. Not a great fit for our family.
3 Smileys - We really liked this product and would probably recommend this to friends and fellow homeschoolers.
4 – Smileys – Definitely would buy this if the budget would allow. We suggest you check this out to see if it is a fit for your family.
5 Smileys – Would sell the family pets to get this one (just kidding). A must have for our family and we think you should get it too.
Please note that I received 8 animals from Schleich in exchange for my honest opinion in this review as part of the TOS crew. No other compensation was received. Thank you to TOS and Schleich for this opportunity.
