Monki See – TOS review

COMPANY:  Monki See

Product:  Baby’s First Words – Vol 1 video

Reading is such an important part of life.  I personally believe that children will learn when they are ready.  A way to help get them ready is to expose them to written word as much as possible as early as possible. This can be done in many ways such as reading to them and having lots of books around.

My house has literally thousands of books.  Just ask my husband.  He says we could start a library without ever adding anything.

Another way to expose them to reading is by educational videos.  MonkiSee is a video series that is designed to teach reading to young children starting at 3 months of age.  It is recommended for ages 3 months to 4 years.

This video series was developed by Krista Guerrero who is a homeschooling Mom of 6 kids.   You can read her story of how 25 cents changed her life here.

My kiddos are many years beyond those ages but I have recently started doing childcare and I have 3 children in that age range.    I put the video on several times and the two older children really liked them.  The baby (who is 12 months old) doesn’t like to watch TV at all so she wasn’t interested.  image  They danced and repeated all of the words.

I received Volume 1 in the series which is called Baby’s First Words.  There are 40 words taught in this volume which are reinforced by a really cute little book that has the same words (29 words in the book)  Each volume features baby monkeys named Howie and Skip.  They teach body parts and other first words in this video.  Puppets, songs and poems are used to keep your child interested.   You can count on 30 minutes of mom time when you put this video on so you can get the dishes done or supper started (or completely done if you’re like a certain 30 minute wonder).

I thought the songs were really cute and I think if you watch the video repeatedly, your child may begin to recognize the words.   Whether or not I believe this indicates reading, I’m not sure.  I think reading comes much later for most children but this is a great way to get them interested in learning.   This first video will definitely go a long way in teaching them their body parts in a really cute way.

There are 6 DVD’s in the series.  You can also get flashcards along with the 2 MonkiSee books.   The videos are on sale now for $19.95 each.  Books cost $9.95 and the flashcards are sale priced at $16.95 for each set.
