My son has always loved firetrucks.  Even though he is almost 13 years old, he is still fascinated by anything fire related.  Of course, now that he is older, he wants to always be the one lighting campfires.  He also loves to burn things with  magnifying glass outside when I'm not looking.  LOL

We received the DVD Lots and Lots of Fire Songs and Safety Tips and the book by the same name from Marshall Publishing to review as part of the TOS crew.    This set is recommended for all ages.

The DVD is an exciting collection of fire truck songs, safety tips and fire fighting action.  It is divided into two sections.  The first section includes a short 12 minute program that is great for showing at a homeschool co-op.  Or you can choose to play the entire 30 minute video for all of the great action.  You get to see every kind of fire truck including hook n ladder trucks and super soakers.   The 3 year old little boy that I watch wanted to see it over and over.     This is great for us because our state requires fire safety every year and this definitely fits the bill for that.

The book starts with meeting firefighter Joe.  He guides you through the book . It explains all of the firefighters equipment and tells why they need all of it.    The pictures are beautiful (if it's possible to say that about fire).  They are actual pictures of trucks, equipment and fires.

Here is the list Table of Contents so you can see just how much is in this book.

Meet Firefighter Joe
Firefighter's Tools & Equipment
Rescue Vehicles - Pumper, Ladder and Specialty Vehicles
Firefighting Facts
Fire Science Basics

This set would make a great Christmas gift.   Marshall Publishing also has a lot of other DVD's and books which are educational and fun including trains, jet planes and animals.  You can view those by visiting their website

PhotobucketNo fire truck book review would be complete without a trip to firehouse.  We love field trips so we set one up for our homeschool group during this review period.  The kids got to get in the fire trucks and ambulance, hear the sirens and the firefighters showed all of the equipment.

The boys even got to hold the jaws of life and get their pictures taken.    This was done with the Mt. Orab Fire Department and they were so great.   We also had the town cops show us their car.  I think more than one of the boys think they are going to go into one of these fields when they grow up.  That makes parents proud (but maybe a little scared too).

The fire truck DVD and book set is originally over $49 but is on sale for $29.95.
If  you  use the code  TOSF1 when you checkout you can  purchase both items for only $19.95!

My favorite part of the book was the Fireman's Prayers.  It reminds me that this is a noble profession but can be very dangerous.  My brother and my niece are both volunteer firefighters for our town and this reminds me that I need to keep all firefighters in my prayers.

Fireman's Prayer
When I am called to duty, God, wherever flames may rage,
Give me strength to save some life, whatever be it's age.

Help me embrace a little child before it is
too late, or save an older person from the
horror of that fate.

Enable me to be alert and hear the weakest
shout, and quickly and efficiently to put
the fire out.

I want to fill my calling and to give the best
in me, to guard my every neighbor and
protect his property.

And if according to my fate, I am to lose
my life, please bless with your protecting
hand,  my children and my wife.
