The 80's had the best games ever. I know because I grew up in the 80's. My siblings and I all got Rubic's Cubes for Christmas one year. I personally wasn't very good at it. I ended up taking it apart and putting it back together correctly. Yep, I was a cheater.
The latest review I have for TOS is the Scruble Cube. It is basically Scrabble meets Rubik's cube.
I think I'd have a hard time taking this one apart and getting it back together. LOL
This is a game for 1-4 players ages 8 and up. The object is to make words using the cube. They must be 3 or more letters. Scoring is the same as scrabble. There are numbers on each letter that correspond to how many points you get. You can get the Scruble cube at Toys R Us, Barnes & Noble and many other specialty stores and retails for $29.95.
My kids showed no interest in playing this game. I was disappointed because we love Scrabble. Bella was very upset because she didn't think she could make words that were three or more letters. When I picked up the cube, I honestly thought it was cheaply made. I had a hard time turning it and it and was afraid it was going to break. It kept getting caught in places and I would have to go backwards. At times, I couldn't get it to go where I wanted. Each individual letter turns on it's side of the cube which was confusing to me. Some didn't turn easily and some just kept turning. Also, we only played with this a couple of times and the letters are already coming off. You can get replacement letters on the website.
We played the game and it took about 40 minutes. We only took 5 turns each and I think we only make one 4 letter word. Most were three letter and I let Bella do a 2 letter word. Here is an example of how we made a word.
You can see the word teen. This scored 4 points. There are Wild Cards, double and triple letter word scores which can be used if they are at the end or beginning of the word you make.
The Scruble Cube website also has a number of free downloads. One thing I like about the website is that they have the score pad (which you can print) and the instructions available. That is great for a family who tends to lose things like us.
I love the concept of this game but it isn't as fun as I thought it would be.

Smiley guide:
1 Smiley - Product not really for our family. Probably wouldn’t buy. This really should probably be a frown face but we hate to be negative.
2 Smileys - Would maybe buy this product if on sale. Not a great fit for our family.
3 Smileys - We really liked this product and would probably recommend this to friends and fellow homeschoolers.
4 – Smileys – Definitely would buy this if the budget would allow. We suggest you check this out to see if it is a fit for your family.
5 Smileys – Would sell the family pets to get this one (just kidding). A must have for our family and we think you should get it too.

It's so hard to play something when your kids have no interest in it. :( Mine are all 5 and under, so they wouldn't like it either.
