Have you ever heard of the 5 love languages?
Did you realize that everybody has a love language (or sometimes two)? Knowing someone’s love language allows you to give them love more easily. Knowing your love language enables you to receive love more easily. The 5 love languages are quality time, words of affirmation, gifts, physical touch and acts of service.
Gary Chapman, the author of the book The 5 love languages, the secret to love that lasts, has now co-written a children’s book on the same concept. He wrote it with Rick Osborne and it is illustrated by Wilson Williams Jr.
It is called A perfect Pet for Peyton. It is a 5 Love Languages Discovery Book that will help your kids understand more about the concept of love languages.
Here’s what we think about it. Bella read it during her free reading time and says she really liked it. She was able to narrate it to me very well so I know she read the entire thing.
I personally loved the pictures. It is so beautifully illustrated. I also love the glossy pages. The pictures seem to jump off of the page at you. I also really liked that some of the words are in different fonts and colors. I think that really helps draw you into the story. Bella said the different colors were “cool”.
Bella’s favorite thing about the book is that there is an insect hidden in each page. She loved finding the hidden bug.
The Story:
The storyline is great and one that I think every child will enjoy. There are twins named Peyton and Penny who are celebrating an amazing birthday adventure. There are some very special friends helping them. As the kids visit Mr. Chapman’s Perfect pet Pal Emporium they learn all about love languages in a very subtle way. The pet store is like a zoo, a museum, a theme park and a birthday party palace all in one. You can follow along as each child is given a pet pal that matches their personality and is a perfect fit for them.
Each page has fun interactive things to do which makes reading the book a lot of fun. I think it also helps reiterate what is going on in the story. I know my kids like reading books that they get to be a part of.
Our family really enjoyed this book. I think yours will too. In a few days I will have another review of a book by Gary Chapman called the 5 Love Languages of Children along with one to give away. Be sure to check back for that.
